ABILENE, Texas (KLTV/KTRE) – Groveton’s Trystin Ard, Garrison’s Bo Pollard, Alba-Golden’s Layton Williams and Hawkins’ Julian Griffin earned gold medals in their respective divisions at the Division IV, Class 2A state championship powerlifting meet at the Taylor County Expo Center in Abilene on Friday.
Ard won the 165-pound division with a total of 1,505 pounds. He squatted 545 pounds, set a state record with a 460-pound bench press and deadlifted 500 pounds.
Pollard won the 220-pound division with a total of 1,855 pounds. He squatted 725 pounds, bench pressed 515 pounds and deadlifted 615 pounds.
Williams won the 275-pound division for his second straight state championship. He broke the state record in squat with 770 pounds and the state record in deadlift with 650 pounds. Williams bench pressed 510 pounds for a total of 1,930 pounds.
Griffin won the super heavyweight division with a total of 1,765 pounds. He squatted 730 pounds, bench pressed 470 pounds and deadlifted 565 pounds.
In the 123-pound division, Beckville’s Boston Seegers finished eighth with a total of 875 pounds.
In the 148-pound division, Garrison’s Avery Yarbrough finished second with a total of 1,440 pounds. He squatted 565 pounds, bench pressed 335 pounds and deadlifted 540 pounds. Garrison’s Jake Harris finished fifth with a total of 1,300 pounds. He squatted 510 pounds, bench pressed 355 pounds and deadlifted 540 pounds. Waskom’s Bubba Jones finished sixth with a total of 1,280 pounds.
In the 181-pound division, Frankston’s Vincent Whitney finished ninth with a total of 1,355 pounds. Shelbyville’s Sergio Reyes finished 11th with a total of 1,330 pounds. Paul Pewitt’s Brody Hodges finished 12th with a total of 1,310 pounds.
In the 198-pound division, Cross Roads’ Oliver Tilley finished fourth. He squatted 575 pounds, bench pressed 410 pounds and deadlifted 565 pounds for a total of 1,550 pounds. Garrison’s Ronnie Jernigan finished ninth with a total of 1,475 pounds.
In the 242-pound division, Timpson’s Mayson Harbison finished fourth. He squatted 630 pounds, bench pressed 420 pounds and deadlifted 585 pounds for a total of 1,635 pounds.
In the 275-pound division, Waskom’s KT Mann finished fifth. He squatted 660 pounds, bench pressed 395 pounds and deadlifted 580 pounds for a total of 1,635 pounds.
In the 308-pound division, Big Sandy’s Brennon Ference finished second. He squatted 650 pounds, bench pressed 450 pounds and deadlifted 700 pounds for a total of 1,800 pounds. Groveton’s Haygen Townsend finished seventh with a total of 1,605 pounds. Ore City’s Donald Veasley finished ninth with a total of 1,550 pounds.
In the super heavyweight division, Harleton’s Kayden Johnson finished second. He squatted 730 pounds, bench pressed 420 pounds and deadlifted 535 pounds for a total of 1,685 pounds. Grapeland’s Jesse Ellington finished sixth with a total of 1,450 pounds.
