A tight battle in the 105 kg class ended by only 2.5 kg, delivering a dramatic silver for Ukraine and signaling strong prospects for the season ahead.
The European Classic Powerlifting Championship is under way in St. Julian’s, Malta.
The silver medal at the continental championship was won by Ukrainian athlete Anatoliy Novopysmennyi, known for world records and numerous world titles as a world champion, in the 105 kg weight category.
According to the official site powerlifting.sport, Novopysmennyi posted a combined total of 932.5 kg, with the breakdown: squat – 365 kg, bench press – 232.5 kg, deadlift – 335 kg.
The gold medalist in this category was Emil Norling from Sweden with a total of 935 kg (340 kg squat, 220 kg bench press, 375 kg deadlift).
Malta competition results
Bronze went to Regina Stergakisa from Denmark – 915 kg in the total (315 kg squat, 225 kg bench press, 375 kg deadlift).
The European Powerlifting Championship in Malta will run until March 22.
They also report that the 2026 World Powerlifting Championship is scheduled for November 13–21 in Dubai (UAE).
Overall, the tournament demonstrates strong competition in the 105 kg category, and Ukraine confirms its interest in strength disciplines at the European level.
