Powerlifters place 2nd at Commerce

The Farmersville powerlifting team recently began its second, with much success.

Farmersville’s boys placed second as a team at Commerce on Friday, Jan. 16, and Conner Bakken was awarded the Best Lifter of the light platform. He won the 123-pound weight class division title with a total weight lifted of 1,135 pounds.

Bakken was one of four Farmers to earn first place at Commerce. Jayden Matthews (114, 720 total), Noah James (148, 1,120 pounds lifted) and Vicente Luna (198, 1,355 total) also received gold medals for capturing first place.

Bryson Helms earned a silver medal after he placed second in the 123-pound class with a total weight lifted of 875 pounds. Landen Herrera placed fourth at 220 with a 1,120 total. Jared Vanderburg was fifth at 242 pounds with a total weight lifted of 1,020 pounds. Cole Tyler captured sixth place in the 165-pound weight class with a 990-pound total.

The Lady Farmers placed fifth out of 12 teams at the Iron Cat Invitational in Sherman on Thursday, Jan. 15.

Janilya Craft and Sophia Ferretiz won first place in their weight classes. Ferretiz is ranked first in the state in her weight class. At Sherman, she squatted 425 pounds, benched 200 and deadlifted 365, earning first place at 220 pounds. Craft is ranked third in the state in her weight class. She placed first at Sherman in the 242-pound weight class division with a total weight lifted of 965 pounds. Craft squatted 420 pounds, benched 215 and deadlifted 380.

Callie Edwards, ranked seventh in the state at 148 pounds, placed fourth at Sherman after lifting a total weight of 745 pounds.
Shaylee Green earned fifth place at 132 pounds after lifting 620 pounds. Gavi Soto (114, 525 pounds lifted), Jadyn Wing (114, 525 pounds lifted), Chloe Jones (123, 570-pound total lifted) and Brynlee McWilliams (181, 540 pounds lifted) also cracked the top 10.
