Hume strives to show flex-ibility on world stage

A WORLD titles campaign is among this year’s goals for Bendigo bodybuilding champion James Hume.

A finalist in the 60th Bendigo Sports Star of the Year awards, Hume is a multiple Mr Australia in several physique classes of natural bodybuilding.

A joint winner for May, Hume will be at the Gold and Glitter gala as Bendigo Sports Star marks 60 years on 27 February at Bendigo’s All Seasons International.

In recent months there’s been plenty of time in the gym, on roads and tracks through a mix of workouts for bodybuilding and crossfit challenges.

He also moved to the Sunshine Coast to be with partner Alexandra Duck, who has swayed Hume to take on crossfit.

A goal for Hume is the world bodybuilding championships in June in England.

Part of the build-up for the worlds will be the PCA Mr Australia show in Melbourne in mid-April.

He will vie to hold the men’s physique crown and is also coaching Alexandra in her lead-up for the show. There will also be the Pro Classic on the Gold Coast at the end of May.

The biggest challenges for Hume on the bodybuilding front include bulking and tapering. He presently tips the scales at 94kg, but a goal will be the mid-80s for the shows.

It’s not just plenty of bicep curls, dumbbell lunges, leg presses and squats that were part of his training at Silverback Strength in Bendigo, and now at Muscle Hut.

“The greatest challenge for me is diet and cardio to get a leaner look,” Hume said.

“It’s not just about the feeling from a win, but appreciating the journey to compete and support I have.”

Key supporters in his bodybuilding pursuits include Krupt Supplements.

“They have been a massive help,” he said.

Hume said prospective sponsors, business or individual, can contact him via his Instagram account.

Away from the gym, stage and crossfit circuits, Hume works for the ANZ bank.

He was last year’s Banking Consultant of the Year for Victoria and Tasmania.

Racing his first marathon and competing in an ironman triathlon are also on Hume’s list as the year rolls on.
