EL’s Dredge, Anderson shine in HYROX fitness race

East London’s Cindy Dredge and Robyn Anderson did well to snatch podium positions at the rigorous HYROX fitness race in Gauteng recently.

The HYROX is a global fitness race combining 8km of running with eight functional workout stations (ski, sled push/pull, burpee, broad jumps, rower, farmer carry, sandbag lunges, and wall balls) repeated in sequence.

It is designed to test strength, endurance and stamina for all fitness levels, featuring consistent formats, global leaderboards and various divisions such as solo, doubles and relay.

It is known as the “World Series of Fitness Racing”.

Dredge, a personal trainer and champion bodybuilder, raced hard to secure a third place in the women’s 40 to 44 PRO division, with a time of one hour, 32 minutes.

In the 50-54 women’s open category, Anderson secured first place in one hour and 30 minutes, additionally earning the coveted Red Bull award for completing 100 unbroken wall balls for the third time.

Anderson and Dredge were part of the 54% of women athletes in the competition.

According to organisers, 6,100 athletes took part, and for the first time, the number of women athletes exceeded that of men.

In the men’s Pro doubles age group 55-59, Jayson Patrick Smal won in one hour, 31 minutes and 54 seconds.
