Iconic Bodybuilder Arlindo de Souza Dead At 55

One of the world’s most famous – and perhaps controversial – bodybuilders has died “suddenly” at 55 years old.

Arlindo de Souza, known as the “Brazilian Popeye,” has died from complications. He was known for injecting mineral oil and alcohol into his arms to achieve the iconic “Popeye” look. He passed away from complications of renal failure.

Doctors reportedly believe that he died from multiple organ failure.

His nephew, Denis Gomes de Luna, spoke out following his sudden death.

“Denis Gomes de Luna, Arlindo’s nephew, said one of his kidneys shut down first, before the other failed around Christmas. Fluid then built up in his lungs, and he went into cardiac arrest before doctors could even begin haemodialysis — an often life-saving treatment for kidney failure,” TMZ Sports reported.

The iconic bodybuilder rose to fame in the early 2000s. He made several TV and magazine appearances, going viral for his Popeye-look.

His biceps reportedly measured in at 73 centimeters, perhaps the biggest in the entire world at one point.

Our thoughts are with his friends and family members during this difficult time on Thursday.

May he rest in peace.
