Pro natural bodybuilder believes the state of bodybuilding is in a sad state right now.\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Brandon Wadas, a professional natural bodybuilder, recently stated in an Instagram post that he believes the competition for bodybuilding is so enhanced that\u2019s it\u2019s causing many bodybuilders to die.<\/strong> Drug abuse\u00a0is leading to deaths piling on top of each other in the sport.\u00a0<\/span>However, the evolution of bodybuilding is morphing positively with the awakening of natural bodybuilding.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In a post published a few weeks ago on October 27th, 2021, he stated that, \u201cSomeone is going to literally have to die on stage before something changes in bodybuilding.\u201d This post and his statement came shortly after the recent passing of George Peterson but before the equally tragic passing of Mr. Olympia champ Shawn Rhoden.<\/p>\n

Bodybuilding in its simplest form is the pursuit to build your most compelling physique possible. It\u2019s been around since early mankind. The ancient Egyptians and Greek societies would use stones to build strength and muscle. It traces back to as early as the 16th century in India where weight training became common using Nals \u2013 stone dumbbell weights.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Although bodybuilding has been around from our primitive days, the sport of bodybuilding can be traced back earnestly to the 19th century.\u00a0<\/span>For those who have been following bodybuilding since the dawn of time, you may remember Eugen Sandow, whom the <\/span>Mr. Olympia <\/span><\/a>statue is modeled on, from the 1890s.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Claims of Drug Use in Bodybuilding<\/b><\/h3>\n

The competitive nature of the sport and the quest to be the best has made drug use common in bodybuilding. There have been many reported deaths in both pro and amateur bodybuilding leagues this year \u2013 while many of these reports have come with no cause of death \u2013 it has still caused many to speculate if the health of bodybuilding athletes are becoming more at risk.<\/span><\/p>\n

To compete at the top level of IFBB, you need to be as humongous and ripped as possible. To reach this \u201cmass monster\u201d type of physique \u2013 many athletes have turned towards steroids and other PEDs. While nearly all professional bodybuilding leagues have not endorsed drug use \u2013 they also do not test for drugs like steroids.<\/span><\/p>\n

Many pro bodybuilders who have since retired have commented on their personal drug use in the sport \u2013 including Mr. Olympia champion Dorian Yates. Now in the age of social media \u2013 the use of steroids in bodybuilding is more of an open secret than anything else.<\/span><\/p>\n

This doesn\u2019t just apply to steroids \u2013 diuretics have been on blast by many experts, trainers, and fellow athletes for causing medical emergencies. Unfortunately, many competitors have died during peak week or have been rushed to the hospital from severe dehydration.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Rise of Natural Bodybuilding<\/b><\/h3>\n

That\u2019s where natural bodybuilding swoops in. Natural bodybuilding hasn\u2019t been around quite as long as other bodybuilding leagues. However, its popularity is growing and it\u2019s a promising progression of the sport. Like most bodybuilding leagues, they do not endorse steroid and other dangerous drug use. But take it a step further by drug testing their athletes.<\/span><\/p>\n

The earliest natural bodybuilding show dates back to 1977 when The Hercules Aphrodites took place, with Karl Marshall coming out on top. In\u00a0<\/span>1990 Denny Kakos founded PNBA (Professional Natural Bodybuilding Association) and further expanded it to INBA (International Natural Bodybuilding Association) in 1994<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The PNBA\/INBA organization looks out for its athletes and levels the playing field of competition by requiring all bodybuilders competing to undergo drug testing from the <\/span>World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA)<\/span><\/a> \u2013 the pinnacle of drug testing for professional sports.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The growing consensus seems to be that many are worried about the state of bodybuilders\u2019 health in the competitive sport. Natural bodybuilding is growing, and it supports natural competitors, which makes competing just and safe for bodybuilders.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
