fat jabs and was left partially paralysed<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Anabolic androgenic <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/health\/40444083\/steroid-warning-woman-dies-after-gp-jab\/\">steroids <\/a>(AAS) are synthetic substances that mimic the effects of testosterone.<\/p>\n<p>They are often used by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/wellness\/fitness\/\">gym goers<\/a> to increase muscle mass and help them achieve a more muscular physique. <\/p>\n<p>But one of the many risks of taking these <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/topic\/drugs\/\">drugs<\/a> is that they can reduce men\u2019s sperm production and sometimes even halt it altogether. <\/p>\n<p>It must be noted, however, that this does not happen to everyone taking steroids and its effects are sometimes only temporary. <\/p>\n<p>In Danny\u2019s case, he started taking steroids in 2008 when he was just 18 to help with his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/topic\/bodybuilding\/\">bodybuilding<\/a> physique. <\/p>\n<p>He explained: \u201cI used to do it all naturally and then felt the pressures of growing up and being in the bodybuilding world.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI realised I was taking them because I was insecure and wanted to be bigger and more muscular.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWas it worth it for a bigger bicep to not have a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/topic\/parenting\/\">family <\/a>when you\u2019re older? It wasn\u2019t worth it.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_40524933\" class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-caption alignnone aligncenter\"><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><span>Danny started taking steroids in 2008 when he was just 18<\/span> <span class=\"credit\">Credit: Kennedy Newsand Media<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"attachment_40528169\" class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-caption alignnone aligncenter\"><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><span>The fitness fan now looks unrecognisable almost two decades later<\/span> <span class=\"credit\">Credit: Kennedy Newsand Media<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Danny, from Preston, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/where\/lancashire\/\">Lancashire<\/a>, was 26 and in a previous relationship when he first started trying for a family. <\/p>\n<p>But after trying for two years with no success, he decided to go to the doctors for a semen analysis. <\/p>\n<p>And there, the results were sadly not what he had hoped for. <\/p>\n<p>Danny said: \u201cThey told me I was infertile and I took it really bad. I\u2019ve tried everything, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/topic\/medicines-vitamins-vaccines\/\">medication<\/a>, <span id=\"a2b659d0-fc1a-4d5f-ae12-07f0e8775239\" class=\"suggested-link\">frozen<\/span> my sperm \u2013 it\u2019s the motility of the sperm that\u2019s not very good.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was like, \u2018why me?\u2019 I used to get jealous of my little sisters having families.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople wouldn\u2019t understand, they\u2019d joke and say \u2018you can have one of my kids\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNobody understood that a man would want kids, I used to feel like my body was broken.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe doctors said it was because of the steroids. I cried my eyes out, they said it\u2019s highly unlikely I will have kids naturally.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI rang my mum to say I won\u2019t be able to give her grandchildren. My future didn\u2019t look like I had planned it in my head.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Now engaged to 30-year-old influencer Sadie Bass after meeting on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/topic\/e4\/\">E4<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/topic\/dating\/\">dating<\/a> show Love Triangle, the couple want to have children and are having to go through IVF. <\/p>\n<p>Speaking about Danny\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/topic\/fertility\/\">fertility<\/a> struggles, Sadie said: \u201cI felt bad for him because he had said he really wants to be a dad and have a family. Hopefully it happens for us but if it doesn\u2019t, I can still see a version of my life where I\u2019ll be happy without kids.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019d be open to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/fabulous\/36977914\/depressed-after-adopting-second-child\/\">adopting<\/a>, it doesn\u2019t have to be a standard family. I\u2019m nervous about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/news\/32035694\/jane-atkinson-women-ivf-motherhood-fertility\/\">IVF <\/a>because it sounds like a gruelling, emotionally-taxing process.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf it doesn\u2019t work out, I don\u2019t want him to be upset.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite knowing about his infertility for years, Danny said he kept it a secret at first as he was embarrassed. <\/p>\n<p>He said: \u201cI\u2019ve known for over 10 years but I didn\u2019t tell anybody, I was embarrassed. I didn\u2019t feel like a man, I felt ashamed. I felt like it was my fault but I was an 18-year-old.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMen don\u2019t talk about it, you only see women talking about it. It\u2019s taken me 10 years to come to terms with the fact I may not have a family.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt used to affect all my <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/topic\/celebrity-relationships-break-ups\/\">relationships<\/a>. I thought \u2018why would someone want somebody that can\u2019t have kids?\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Danny took steroids for five years before stopping them in 2013. <\/p>\n<p>He now says he trains for \u201clongevity\u201d and to try and \u201ckeep fit and healthy\u201d. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just want to create awareness that men are not alone because they will not talk about it,\u201d the former bodybuilder said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is even worse now for young lads because they\u2019ve got the pressure of social media and steroids are so accessible.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou hear all the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/topic\/benefits\/\">benefits<\/a> but you don\u2019t hear all the side effects, and when you do, you don\u2019t think it will ever happen to you.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m worried about young lads who take them.
