The Mr. Olympia 2026 stage not only brings together some of the best bodybuilders in the world: it also puts up one of the biggest prize purses in the history of the competition. This year’s edition will be held from September 24 to 27 in Las Vegas, with Derek Lunsford as the defending champion.

While athletes seek to arrive in their best physical condition, attention is also focused on the prizes. According to the information available about this edition, the total purse could exceed $2 million, while the winner of the Men”s Open category would have the possibility of taking home $600,000.

How much money does the Mr. Olympia 2026 champion earn?

The Mr. Olympia 2026 prize for the Men”s Open champion is projected at $600,000, an amount that would mark a new high for the contest if officially confirmed. The expected distribution for the top five places in the main category is:

  1. 1st – $600,000

  2. 2nd – $250,000

  3. 3rd – $100,000

  4. 4th – $40,000

  5. 5th – $35,000

The figure becomes more significant when considering that in 2025 more than $2 million was distributed among the 11 Olympia divisions. For 2026, the total prize pool could once again exceed that amount.

Economic growth also reflects the evolution of the event since its creation in 1965. The Olympia was driven by Joe Weider and had Larry Scott as its first champion, while figures such as Lee Haney y Ronnie Coleman ended up becoming historical icons of the competition.

How much money do bodybuilders make?

‘Although the Men”s Open champion can aspire to a six-figure sum, a professional bodybuilder’s earnings do not depend solely on the prize won at the Olympia.’

Athletes can also generate income through sponsorships, commercial contracts, exhibitions, social media, their own products, and participation in other competitions. Therefore, two competitors with similar results can have very different annual incomes.

In addition, the Olympia distributes prizes among different categories, so the money is not concentrated exclusively in Men”s Open. Among the divisions that are part of the event are:
