Fish Hoek bodybuilder and personal trainer Troy Fish is preparing to flex his muscles on the international stage when he represents South Africa at a fitness competition in Italy in November.<\/span><\/p>\n

Fish will compete in the United World Sports & Fitness Federation (UWSFF) Pro Am Championships in Catania, Italy, from Friday, November 13 to Sunday, November 15.<\/span><\/p>\n

For Fish, bodybuilding has been part of his life from an early age. He watched his father train and developed a passion for lifting weights himself.<\/span><\/p>\n

In 2017, he decided to take the next step and enter his first bodybuilding competition \u2013 and went on to win his debut show.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThat was the beginning of a journey that has taken me through numerous competitions, plenty of trophies and, most importantly, a lot of personal growth,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Discipline behind the physique<\/b><\/h2>\n

Fish has continued to build on his success, finishing first in Mr Denim, third in Men’s Physique, and fourth in Classic Physique this year.<\/span><\/p>\n

His preparation requires considerable discipline, with his daily routine focused on training, nutrition and staying active.<\/span><\/p>\n

Fish averages between 13 000 and 20 000 steps a day and has made sacrifices as part of his competition preparation, including turning down birthday cake and wine.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cCompetition preparation isn’t glamorous. It means early nights, very repetitive food, six days of training a week, and making sure I keep moving,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Raising funds for Italy<\/b><\/h2>\n

Fish is excited about the opportunity to compete against athletes from around the world and represent his country.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cTo potentially go from growing up and working in the same small community to competing against athletes from other countries in Italy would be one of the biggest opportunities I’ve ever had. I’m genuinely excited to see how I compare internationally,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n

However, getting to Italy comes with a significant financial cost. Fish needs to raise R40 000 to cover competition fees, registration, flights, accommodation, food, transport, tanning and other expenses associated with competing internationally.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Several fundraising initiatives are under way to help him reach his target.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Ash & Brad comedy show will be held at the Kalk Bay Theatre at 8pm on Saturday, September 26, with half of the proceeds going towards Fish’s fundraising campaign. Tickets cost R300 per person and are available through Quicket<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

A raffle is also being held, with tickets costing R50 each and prizes valued at more than R10 000. The draw will take place on Friday, October 30. Raffle tickets can be purchased through Win4Troy<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Fish also has a BackaBuddy<\/a> campaign for those who would like to contribute directly to his fundraising effort.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Community support<\/b><\/h3>\n

Fish said he is grateful for the support he has already received from the community.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cPeople have come together to organise raffles, find sponsorship opportunities and help wherever they can. Seeing people put their own time and effort into helping me make this possible has honestly been one of the most meaningful parts of the whole experience,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n

He added that people do not necessarily have to donate to make a difference.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cEven if people are unable to donate anything, just sharing my story will be helpful,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n
