Elizabeth Smart\/Instagram<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Elizabeth Smart<\/a><\/strong> had high praise for a recent bodybuilding competition she participated in, despite placing at the bottom of the two classes she was eligible for.<\/p>\n

Smart shared her take on the experience on Instagram<\/a>. She captioned a video of herself at the competition, \u201cAnother show for the books! Had such a blast. I\u2019ve always said \u2018just stepping on stage is a win for me!\u2019 And I completely stand by that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Smart continued:<\/p>\n

I competed in two classes: \u201cMasters 35+,\u201d which requires you to be 35 or older, and \u201cOpen Class D,\u201d which is height-based. I placed at the bottom of both classes. Regardless of where I placed, I loved the whole experience, had an amazing coach (@slcrobynmaher), got to step onstage with my best friend (@mpholsombake), and had the best support squad in the audience I could ask for. I brought a better physique and stage presence than at my previous shows, and I\u2019m so proud of myself for the hard work, discipline, and bravery it takes me to compete. So here\u2019s to pursuing goals and not giving up!<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Smart competed at the National Physique Committee\u2019s North American Championships in Pittsburgh. The event took place from Sept. 2 to Sept. 5.<\/p>\n

In April she won the Fit Model Novice at the Wasatch Warrior competition in Salt Lake City.<\/p>\n

At the time, Smart acknowledged<\/a> that many of her followers were likely surprised by her decision to enter bodybuilding competitions and to share the photos and videos online.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I posted the pictures in my story of me standing on stage in a bikini it probably shocked many of you, and I understand the shock because had you asked me if I would ever compete in a bodybuilding show a couple of years ago I would have said, \u2018absolutely not! Never in 100 years!”\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n

Smart added that she was \u201cWorried that I would be judged, not taken seriously, somehow perceived as less than or now unworthy to continue work as an advocate for all survivors. Then this past weekend it struck me how eerily familiar these feelings and thoughts are for too many survivors.\u201d<\/p>\n

Smart, who lives in Utah, was thrust into the national consciousness when she was kidnapped from her home at age 14 in 2002. She survived the horrendous ordeal and was rescued by officers 9 months later, and has since become an activist for child safety, work that included speaking before Congress in 2006. She founded the Elizabeth Smart Foundation, which aides sexual assault victims in recovery, in 2011 and published her own recounting of the kidnapping in 2013.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
