Elizabeth Smart is stronger than ever. <\/p>\n

The 38-year-old posted a video from a recent bodybuilding competition<\/a> on Instagram<\/a>, saying that she had \u201csuch a blast.\u201d Wearing a bikini and high heels, the mom of three smiles and poses for the crowd before walking offstage.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve always said \u2018just stepping on stage is a win for me!\u2019 And I completely stand by that,\u201d she wrote, in part.<\/p>\n

Despite \u2014 or perhaps because of \u2014 Smart\u2019s childhood trauma, she isn\u2019t shy about the new attention.<\/p>\n

When she was just 14, Smart was abducted from her home<\/a> in Salt Lake City. After nine months of being raped and assaulted, she was rescued by police. Now she works as an advocate for missing persons and sex abuse victims.<\/p>\n

In a May 2026 interview with \u201cEntertainment Tonight<\/a>,\u201d Smart explained that her upbringing in the modest Mormon church also made her think twice before posting bodybuilding photos.<\/p>\n

\u201cModesty is heavily stressed, and that was my upbringing. So then I was also like, \u2018What will people think of me?\u2019\u201d she recalled. \u201cThen I was just, like, \u2018You know what? I have one shot at life, and I don\u2019t want to get to the end of my life and look back and think I should have done that.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

She also noted that the combination of her past experiences and current work with victims helped her overcome her fear of sharing her bodybuilding journey publicly.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat is why a lot of victims don\u2019t talk about what\u2019s happened, because they\u2019re afraid that they won\u2019t be believed. They\u2019re afraid that they\u2019ll be judged, maybe for how they were dressed \u2026 When that connection was made in my mind, I was like, I have to do it,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n

The journey has been fulfilling and a tremendous achievement for Smart personally.<\/p>\n

\u201cI competed in two classes: \u2018Masters 35+,\u2019 which requires you to be 35 or older, and \u2018Open Class D,\u2019 which is height-based,\u201d she wrote on her latest Instagram about her most recent body building competition. \u201cI placed at the bottom of both classes. Regardless of where I placed, I loved the whole experience.\u201d<\/p>\n

After thanking her \u201csupport squad\u201d in the audience, Smart added, \u201cI brought a better physique and stage presence than at my previous shows, and I\u2019m so proud of myself for the hard work, discipline, and bravery it takes me to compete. So here\u2019s to pursuing goals and not giving up!\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
