Tyler Mane is the former heel pro wrestler who battled Andr\u00e9 the Giant in Japan, and traded blows with icons like Sting and the British Bulldog in WCW. And, having transitioned to the big screen, the man once known as \u201cBig Sky\u201d became a supervillain all over again, using his towering physicality to succeed in the role of Sabretooth in X-Men<\/em> and Deadpool & Wolverine.<\/em>\u201dAt 6\u20198\u2033 he also became the tallest person to play the evil Michael Myers in Halloween<\/em> (2007)\u00a0 and Halloween II<\/em> (2009), but after being diagnosed with breast cancer, and bravely sharing his treatment journey on social media, the star has become a superhero to many, using his platform to raise awareness of the importance of getting checked out, and explaining why it is essential to follow your doctor\u2019s advice for treatment.<\/p>\n \u201cI had my last chemo yesterday, so we\u2019re on the mend now,\u201d Mane tells M&F.<\/em> Breast cancer is very rare among men, but this year in the U.S., around 2,670 men will be diagnosed with this invasive disease, leading to 530 deaths<\/a>. Worst still, is the fact that many of these fatal cases could have been avoided if they had been diagnosed early.<\/p>\n With an impressive Hollywood r\u00e9sum\u00e9 building nicely, Mane set about growing his own production company, Mane Entertainment<\/a>, a banner that launched the popular \u201cThe Last Spartan\u201d graphic novels and has made a point of hiring taller people on filming projects. \u201cTo give the taller actors a little bit of playtime,\u201d he explains, noting that those who are \u2018vertically gifted\u2019 can often find it difficult to get cast among some of the industry\u2019s tinier stars. Things were going great professionally, but life would soon throw a huge curveball at his health.<\/p>\n A summer rolled into the winter of 2025, Mane had ramped up his fitness efforts after feeling that he\u2019d let his body weight creep up. He stopped drinking alcohol and through exercise and a renewed commitment to nutrition,\u00a0 dropped a significant amount of fat. \u201cBut with losing that weight, I felt a lump in the side of my chest,\u201d says Mane. \u201cAnd I was like, \u2018oh, that\u2019s just\u2026 I probably tweaked something. It\u2019s nothing.\u2019 But my wife, Renae, said, \u2018You need to get that checked.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n Having recently lost his brother to a heart attack, Mane was all too aware of the fragility of life and so he followed his wife\u2019s persistent advice to seek medical attention. Mane\u2019s lump was removed for testing, and it was revealed that the star was suffering from invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC), a condition that accounts for around 80% of all breast cancer cases<\/a>. \u201cI was like, how can that be?\u201d reflects Mane. \u201cHow could this be happening to me?\u201d<\/p>\n An early diagnosis was lifesaving for Mane however, because it was soon revealed that he had a fast-moving Oncotype. \u201cSo, why I\u2019m doing this, and why I\u2019m advocating for all of this is: men, go get yourself checked!\u201d<\/p>\n Despite the fact that women generally live longer than men, guys are up to 50% less likely to seek medical attention<\/a> than the fairer sex. There are a number of reasons for this, like playing up to the stereotypes around masculinity, feeling that they are too busy, or simply relying on the notion that issues will clear up by themselves. \u00a0\u201cGuys are like, \u2018It\u2019ll go away\u2019, \u2018I gotta suck it up\u2019, \u2018I\u2019ve got to support the family\u2019, \u2018I gotta do this, gotta do that,\u2019\u201d explains Mane. \u201cNo, you\u2019ve got to be your best and biggest advocate for yourself.\u201d<\/p>\n When Mane first consulted with a doctor, he insisted on having the lump properly tested, despite the fact that the initial opinion was that it was probably just a non-cancerous lipoma. \u201cIf the doctors say, \u2018Oh, it\u2019s probably nothing, say: \u2018No, I want the tests,\u2019\u201d he advises. \u201cI was just at a convention with my wife this weekend, promoting the \u2018Main AF\u2019 podcast, and a gentleman came up to me, he said, \u2018My father had male breast cancer, and he let it go so long\u2019\u2026 He went in, and he was at stage 4, so he ended up passing away from it. So please, if you know something is off, you gotta go check.\u201d<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cI did four sessions,\u201d explains the actor, who lost his beard after just one chemo session. \u201cAnd they progressively got a little worse,\u201d he explains. \u201cThe very first session I did, I didn\u2019t approach it right, I didn\u2019t hydrate enough, so I cramped up. The second session that I had, I broke out in hives all over for some reason. This last session, I couldn\u2019t lift my arm above my chest. Now I\u2019m at the stage where it\u2019s done, I\u2019m moving forward, we\u2019re good.\u201d<\/p>\n Mane will now require around four weeks of Monday to Friday radiation therapy, lasting just ten minutes per day. \u201cThat is to make sure there is no lingering cancer cells,\u201d says the star. To stay energized during this ordeal, the former grappler continued to challenge himself physically, but he\u2019s looking forward to returning to the heavy weights. \u201cI think I lost about eight to ten pounds,\u201d he says of the chemo and treatment process. \u201cSo, I\u2019m looking forward to getting back in the gym.\u201d<\/p>\n The pro-wrestler-turned-actor is also looking forward to sharing his message via his aforementioned podcast, \u201cMain AF with Tyler & Ranae,\u201d where he\u2019ll be talking to medical professionals, celebrity friends, and special guests about the issue of breast cancer, and other challenges that face fellow mid-lifers. \u201cIt\u2019s gonna be open for everybody,\u201d he enthuses, noting that he feels compelled to put out some factual information around serious issues like cancer, because the star came across so much misinformation when doing this own research online. \u201cSee your doctor, because that\u2019s where the science is. That\u2019s where the training is,\u201d explains Mane. \u201cIf chemotherapy is recommended, or radiology is recommended, do what you have to do to keep healthy.\u201d The star notes that there\u2019s nothing wrong with looking into holeistic therapies, but they should be part of the mix, rather than replacing a doctor\u2019s care.<\/p>\n \u201cThere\u2019s a 40% chance that anyone will get some form of cancer in their lifetime,\u201d says Mane. \u201cSo those are pretty high odds, that you\u2019re going to be dealing with some cancer in your lifetime.
