He continued through the course, but because he was forced to bypass obstacles he couldn\u2019t record an official time or placing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It hasn\u2019t diminished his appetite for competition.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI think some people tend to use their age as a crutch and say, \u2018Well, I can\u2019t because I\u2019m X years old\u2019,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI just think, \u2018Why not? Let\u2019s do it.\u2019\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>From the classroom to Trainer of the Year<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There was a time when Michael\u2019s working life had nothing to do with gyms, barbells or body fat percentages.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He started out as a primary school teacher before eventually turning a lifelong passion for health and fitness into a new career.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">About six years ago he made the switch to personal training and today works at Anytime Fitness Ballina.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI\u2019ve done fitness pretty much my whole life, so it makes sense for me,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIt\u2019s something where I\u2019ve got a passion for it, but I\u2019ve got a skill set for it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Within just a few years of changing careers, Michael had risen to the top of his profession.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2023, he was named Anytime Fitness Trainer of the Year nationally.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Michael admits the recognition came much earlier than he expected.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI still think it\u2019s hard to imagine that I was named best in the country,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI would think that was something I\u2019d be getting maybe now, or maybe another three or four years. But to get it then, I was stoked, blown away.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">His clients range from young adults through to people in their 70s and 80s. Over his career he has trained people as young as 15 and as old as 85.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And at 50, Michael is increasingly becoming his own advertisement for the message he gives his older clients.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cDon\u2019t let your physicality or your limitations stop you from moving, getting fit or improving yourself,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cYou\u2019ve still got more left in you than you think.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>The Hugh Jackman of Japanese weddings<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Then there is perhaps the most unlikely chapter in Michael Bosman\u2019s CV.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Long before the bodybuilding stage, Michael spent six years performing Western-style wedding ceremonies in Japan.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And he did a lot of them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Michael estimates he performed between 500 and 600 ceremonies, sometimes appearing at eight, nine or even 10 weddings in a single day.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The ceremonies were essentially theatrical Western-style additions to the couples\u2019 formal marriage arrangements.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Michael\u2019s role was part celebrant, part performer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ballina News Daily suggested he was effectively \u201cthe Hugh Jackman of weddings\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c100 per cent,\u201d Michael laughed. \u201cThat was me. I played that role.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was a very different stage, but the experience has proved unexpectedly useful decades later.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After spending weekend after weekend performing in front of audiences in Japan, standing under lights in posing trunks while bodybuilding judges scrutinise his physique isn\u2019t particularly intimidating.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cYou\u2019re so zoned into what you do that really the crowd, everything else doesn\u2019t register,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIt\u2019s more doing a good job, doing the best job I can. That worries me more than anything else.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In Classic Physique, competitors are judged on an aesthetic body shape reminiscent of bodybuilding\u2019s golden era \u2014 broad shoulders, a narrow waist and developed legs creating the characteristic \u201cX-frame\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Michael points to Arnold Schwarzenegger\u2019s famous physique as an example of the classic look.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Three competitions into his bodybuilding career, he now has three new divisional titles and the Nationals waiting in October.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And there is unfinished business in Spartan racing too.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Michael has never achieved a Spartan podium finish and next year wants to compete at elite level in his age category and finally claim a top-three place.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWhy can\u2019t I,\u201d he says.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThere\u2019s nothing to stop me.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/ballinanewsdaily.com.au\/2026\/08\/ballina-trainer-flexes-his-muscle-with-triple-bodybuilding-win-at-50\/\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>His world championship campaign didn\u2019t go entirely to plan.
