Keith Thurman isn\u2019t sold on Conor Benn\u2019s technical ability as the challenger prepares to face WBC welterweight champion Ryan Garcia on September 12 in Las Vegas.<\/p>\n

Thurman sees the obvious athletic qualities in Benn. What he questions is how much boxing skill sits underneath the power, relentless pace and conditioning.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, it\u2019s interesting. I still don\u2019t know what to think too much about Conor Benn. You know, he reminds me of like just those guys at the gym that are a little bit like bodybuilder boxers. You know, like they\u2019re just shredded. They train hard, they got the physique, and they\u2019re rough and tough, but where exactly is his IQ? Where\u2019s the skills? Where\u2019s the technique?\u201d Thurman told Fight Hub TV.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Garcia gives Benn an opportunity to answer those questions. Benn can apply relentless pressure, throw with power and force grueling exchanges, but Ryan possesses the faster hands and sharp counterpunching to punish aggressive entries.<\/p>\n

Thurman isn\u2019t dismissing Benn\u2019s chances. He compared that raw style to dealing with a charging rhino, pointing out that pure force remains dangerous regardless of technical shortcomings.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not that it\u2019s a guaranteed loss for a fighter of that type of caliber. It\u2019s not a guaranteed loss, but at the highest level, you will run into skillful opposition,\u201d Thurman said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Ryan provides exactly that test.<\/p>\n

Benn\u2019s pressure gives him a route to making Garcia uncomfortable, particularly if he can trap the champion on the inside rather than allowing Ryan to operate at his preferred range. The danger comes while crossing that distance, where Garcia\u2019s speed and counterpunching can make Benn pay for reckless attacks.<\/p>\n

Thurman\u2019s criticism places the burden on Benn to show that there is more to his game than pure athleticism when he meets Garcia.<\/p>\n
