His death occurred suddenly, following the posting of a photo in the gym where he showcased his physical achievements, which shocked fans and colleagues.<\/p>\n<p>The cause of Araujo&#8217;s death has not yet been determined, but his case is not unique among bodybuilders who have died at a young age. For example, in late May, 22-year-old Gabriel Ganly died in Brazil from sudden cardiac arrest, and last year, two other bodybuilders aged 30 and 40 also died from cardiovascular diseases, one of them during a competition.<\/p>\n<p>The deaths of bodybuilders raise questions about the health of athletes who appear physically strong and resilient. A study conducted in 2025 showed that the risk of sudden cardiac death among professional bodybuilders is more than five times higher than that of amateurs. An analysis published in the European Heart Journal identified 121 cases of death, of which 46 were classified as sudden cardiac deaths.<\/p>\n<p>The average age of the deceased was 45 years; however, among actively competing athletes, it was significantly lower \u2014 34.7 years. Dr. Marco Vecchiato from the University of Padua in Italy pointed to several factors contributing to such cases, including the use of sports supplements, rapid weight loss before competitions, and intense training.<\/p>\n<p>Other studies also confirm the dangers associated with the use of anabolic steroids. Danish researchers, observing 1,189 men using these substances, found that their risk of developing cardiomyopathy was nearly nine times higher, and the risk of heart failure was more than three times higher. Steroids can cause high blood pressure as well as structural changes in the heart, leading to serious consequences.<\/p>\n<p>In many cases, autopsies of bodybuilders have shown enlarged hearts and thickening of the left ventricle walls, which can lead to arrhythmias and heart failure. For example, the autopsy of Dallas McCarver, a well-known American bodybuilder, revealed that his heart weighed over 833 grams \u2014 more than twice the average weight for men.<\/p>\n<p>The challenges in assessing the impact of steroids on the health of bodybuilders stem from the lack of official statistics on mortality related to their use in most countries, including Brazil. Deaths are often recorded by immediate cause, without considering the role of steroids. This complicates the accurate determination of the number of victims associated with the use of anabolic substances.<\/p>\n<p>Medical experts emphasize that the use of steroids is always associated with risks, and even under medical supervision, it can lead to serious side effects.
