Team Nigeria has climbed to the top five on the medals table at the ongoing 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow after weightlifters won three more gold medals on Monday, taking the country\u2019s tally to 10 medals.\n<\/p>\n

The National Sports Commission, in a statement posted on its X handle on Tuesday, said Team Nigeria now has six gold and four silver medals, placing the country ahead of every other African nation at the Games.\n<\/p>\n

According to the commission, weightlifters Edidiong\u00a0 Umoafia, Onome Didih and Rafiatu Lawal delivered another golden outing to boost Nigeria\u2019s medal haul.\n<\/p>\n

\u201cTeam Nigeria enjoyed another outstanding day at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, adding three more gold medals through a dominant display in weightlifting to take the nation\u2019s medal tally to 10 medals, six gold and four silver, moving Nigeria to fourth place on the overall medal table,\u201d the commission stated.<\/p>\n

It added that Umoafia won the men\u2019s 71kg event with a combined lift of 319kg, Didih claimed the women\u2019s 53kg title with a Commonwealth Games record total of 203kg, while Lawal successfully defended her Commonwealth title in the women\u2019s 58kg event.\n<\/p>\n

The commission congratulated Team Nigeria\u2019s athletes, coaches and officials for their performances.<\/p>\n

When PUNCH Online<\/strong> checked the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games website, it observed that Nigeria had dropped to fifth place after Scotland overtook it with six gold, four silver and three bronze medals.\n<\/p>\n
