Your body recruits more muscle fibers first, the big, powerful, high-threshold fibers, the ones that actually give you that 3D look, only come into play when the smaller ones are exhausted. The rule is you need to be training within 1-3 reps of absolute failure.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3 id=\"the-negative\">The Negative<\/h3>\n<p>His next piece of advice was to focus on the eccentric portion of the repetition. Too often, he notices lifters who drop the weight on the final stretch of a repetition, but that\u2019s when the most progress is made.\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThe eccentric part of the movement. If you\u2019re just dropping the weight after a lift, you\u2019re leaving 50 percent of your gains on the floor. The eccentric or the lowering phase is where we create the most mechanical tension and the most microtraumas to the muscle fibers.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cResearch shows that focusing on the negative can lead to 10 percent more growth compared to just focusing on the lift. The protocol I want is a three-second eccentric on every rep.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3 id=\"protein-mastery\">Protein Mastery<\/h3>\n<p>Without enough protein, Terry explained, the body lacks the building blocks to maintain muscle mass. He also noted the importance of protein timing:\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cYour body can only process so much protein for muscle repair at once. So, instead of one or two big meals, try to split that intake across four to five meals, aim for 40-50 grams of high-quality protein every three to four hours. During deep sleep, your body produces its largest pulse of growth hormone and restores your testosterone.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe standard is around 7-9 hours, and it\u2019s non-negotiable. Keep your room cold, keep it dark, and get off your phone an hour before bed,\u201d he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=qoYGIPvb-vg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">shared<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3 id=\"progressive-overload\">Progressive Overload<\/h3>\n<p>He also pointed to progressive overload because, without it, the body will adapt to training, which could lead to a plateau.\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThe rule that governs everything. If you aren\u2019t progressing, you\u2019re plateauing. Your body is an adaptation machine. If you lift the same weight for the same reps every week, your body has no reason to change. You must provide a stimulus that is beyond what you did last time.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>With summer here, Terry took the time to break down<a href=\"https:\/\/fitnessvolt.com\/ryan-terry-shares-3-fat-loss-tips-for-shredded-six-pack\/\"> how to achieve a shredded six-pack<\/a>. He shared that you can\u2019t spot reduce, so focusing on overall body fat loss is crucial. Additionally, he recommended building muscle with high-protein foods and emphasized stress management.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Terry has used these five pillars to secure three consecutive Men\u2019s Physique Olympia titles.
