Barbell Productions                                                                            <span class=\"credit\">Courtesy of Ryan Earwood<\/span>                                                            <\/figcaption><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think some of those people that might have been bullying him are gonna think twice before they run up on him,\u201d Flowers said.<\/p>\n<p><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>Last September, Nash set Georgia powerlifting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ledger-enquirer.com\/sports\/article313283944.html\"><u>records<\/u><\/a> in the squat, deadlift and total weight categories for his age group. Six months later, he broke the state bench press <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wtvm.com\/2026\/03\/02\/13-year-old-breaks-state-records-georgia-powerlifting-state-championships\/\">record<\/a> for his age group too.<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>In June, Nash continued his stellar form at the USA Powerlifting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.openpowerlifting.org\/m\/usapl\/NS-2026-04B#nashearwood\"><u>Youth Nationals<\/u><\/a> in Lombard, Illinois, smashing four American records for the 12-13-year-old age group:<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Squat 419.9 pounds<\/li>\n<li>Bench 262.3 pounds<\/li>\n<li>Deadlift 425.5 pounds<\/li>\n<li>Total weight for all three lifts 1,107.8 pounds<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>Heather Faas, executive director of USA Powerlifting, has been involved in the sport for 13 years. She told the L-E Nash\u2019s numbers are \u201cinsane,\u201d especially for someone so early in their powerlifting career.<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s growing dramatically in the numbers that he\u2019s able to complete and lift successfully from his first meet,\u201d she said. \u201cNot only is he getting stronger, but he\u2019s also becoming a better competitive athlete.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>To Flowers, Nash\u2019s rapid rise in the sport is \u201can anomaly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor a 13-year-old to get 300s, that\u2019s insane,\u201d Nash said. \u201cBut to get 400s and mid-400s, that\u2019s just not supposed to be possible, but I did that, and I have proof to show that too.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"h2\">Coach-less at nationals<\/h2>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>Nash\u2019s trip to nationals in June had a turbulent start \u2013 literally.<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>He flew to Chicago with his family. As they landed, they faced heavy winds, a tornado watch and flash flood warnings.<\/p>\n<p><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was like being back here instead of being way up north.\u201d his father, Ryan Earwood, the assistant fire chief at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.army.mil\/article\/239086\/2_benning_firefighters_earn_dod_recognition\"><u>Fort Benning<\/u><\/a>, told the L-E.<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>After the bumpy landing, the Earwoods decided to try a Chicago staple: deep dish pizza.<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>Ryan texted Flowers photos as they ate, excited to have him join them for pizza in the Windy City later that day. Barbell Productions                                                                            <span class=\"credit\">Courtesy of Ryan Earwood<\/span>                                                            <\/figcaption><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"h2\">Big Nash sets four American records<\/h2>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>When Nash arrived for nationals at the Westin Chicago Lombard Hotel, the competition stage was unlike anything he had seen.<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>Instead of having a single platform for powerlifting like state competitions, nationals had four platforms and TVs to watch all the action. When he first walked in the ballroom where the competition was to be held, Nash said, \u201cThis is insane.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>Nash said he cherished being in an environment with so many people passionate about powerlifting. Since he usually sits in the audience, being beside his son on stage afforded Ryan a new perspective as Nash made national history.<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was a great moment,\u201d Ryan said. \u201cI wouldn\u2019t give it up for anything.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>Nash FaceTimed Flowers after the competition and filled him in on the news. Flowers said he was punching air as soon as he heard about Nash\u2019s success, and he had tears in his eyes watching Nash hug his dad in the highlight reel.<\/p>\n<p><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven though I wish I was there, I\u2019m glad his dad was there,\u201d Flowers said, \u201cThat\u2019s going to be a memory that they share for the rest of life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"h2\">How Nash breaks away from the competition<\/h2>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>When Nash began training with Flowers 20 months ago, he knew nothing about powerlifting, but Flowers saw Nash was different.<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>Although he had never trained someone for powerlifting, Flowers was impressed by the weights of his initial lifts and recognized his rare will to improve.<\/p>\n<p><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s focused,\u201d Flowers said. \u201cHe\u2019s driven. He really wants it. Even when I set a number or a rep range or a weight, he often goes past it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>Flowers said the 13-year-old has the determination of a semiprofessional athlete.<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>Nash\u2019s discipline continues outside the gym. He trains at home as well, kicking off each week with his own \u201cmotivational Monday\u201d workout and resetting his routine with Sunday walks.<\/p>\n<p><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cMost 13-year-olds can barely make sure they get their room picked up \u2014 which he does struggle with, but that\u2019s a different story,\u201d Ryan said. \u201cBut he stays very focused on this because it\u2019s something he\u2019s very dedicated to.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"h2\">What\u2019s next for the national record holder<\/h2>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>When Nash has the time to rest, he doesn\u2019t.<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>On Saturdays, he runs his own lawn care business. Ryan said his son learns by doing, just like him.<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s actually to the point where I have to hide my tools, and I\u2019ve started buying him tools,\u201d Ryan said.<\/p>\n<p><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>Nash is transferring from Aaron Cohn Middle School to Brookstone School for eighth grade. He plans to take a year off from powerlifting, focusing on wrestling and football instead and working toward playing college football.<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>But powerlifting, a \u201chobby\u201d to Nash, remains on his mind. He hopes to compete again the year after next and qualify for international powerlifting events.<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cNext year, I\u2019ll probably come back,\u201d he said, \u201ccause I can\u2019t help myself.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"h2\">Flowers calls Nash a \u2018one of a generation\u2019 talent<\/h2>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>Flowers said Nash\u2019s work ethic and talent in the sport is rare.<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s an anomaly,\u201d Flowers said. \u201cHe\u2019s not the average. He\u2019s one of a generation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>The 4.0 Fitness owner is equally proud of Nash\u2019s ability to create a \u201cnew destiny\u201d for himself, channeling anger issues and being bullied into determination and athletic achievement.<\/p>\n<p><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a marker for your life to say, \u2018Hey, I overcame this,\u2019\u201d Flowers said. \u201cSomething he can always take with him and build.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>Faas of USA Powerlifting praised Nash\u2019s \u201cincredible\u201d strength and technical ability in each lift.<\/p>\n<p><!----><!--]--><!--[--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s pretty remarkable that not only did he just break one record but that he literally took four,\u201d Faas said. \u201cHe swept the records across the board.
