{"id":23770,"date":"2026-07-02T17:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-07-02T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/worldbodybuildingnews.com\/?p=23770"},"modified":"2026-07-02T17:00:00","modified_gmt":"2026-07-02T17:00:00","slug":"nurse-powers-on-to-international-stage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldbodybuildingnews.com\/?p=23770","title":{"rendered":"Nurse powers on to international stage"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div property=\"content:encoded\">Peer pressure is usually frowned on but for a Dunedin woman it has propelled her into representing New Zealand on the international powerlifting stage.<!--break--><\/p>\n<p>Holly Pringle, 22, who grew up in Ettrick, will be competing in Canada later this year.<\/p>\n<p>When asked what led her to powerlifting she said &#8220;peer pressure&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>She said she was encouraged to take up weight training by her aunt Tracy Pringle.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I just kind of started getting into the gym consistently for a couple of months maybe. And she was like, \u2018oh, your cousins are doing it, it\u2019d be a good thing for you to aim for\u2019.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Pringle was studying at the time and another cousin Jonty McKinnell was writing programmes for the boys so he added her in.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I just kind of hopped on that when I was at home over summer and went from there.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Now the only one in the family doing powerlifting she said she was committed to the sport and the community around it.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It\u2019s a real good gym in Dunedin.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Everyone\u2019s got each other\u2019s backs &#8230;[and there\u2019s] good motivation.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Lifting in the under-63kg junior category her best lift was the deadlift where she could lift 160kg \u2014 around two and a-half times her own weight.<\/p>\n<p>More peer pressure led to her entry into the national team, Pringle said.<\/p>\n<p>After competing at the national competition someone at the gym suggested she apply for the New Zealand team.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I didn\u2019t think I\u2019d get in &#8230; I got lucky,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>However, winning the women\u2019s junior under-63kg section at the Southern Provincial Championship in March then placing third at the National Junior Powerlifting likely had more to do with it than luck.<\/p>\n<p>She was now training four days a week in preparation for heading to Canada in September.<\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.odt.co.nz\/regions\/central-otago\/mailto:julie.asher@alliedmedia.co.nz\">julie.asher@alliedmedia.co.nz<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.odt.co.nz\/regions\/central-otago\/nurse-powers-international-stage\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Peer pressure is usually frowned on but for a Dunedin woman it has propelled her into representing New Zealand on the international powerlifting stage.
