{"id":23163,"date":"2026-06-23T23:23:00","date_gmt":"2026-06-23T23:23:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/worldbodybuildingnews.com\/?p=23163"},"modified":"2026-06-23T23:23:00","modified_gmt":"2026-06-23T23:23:00","slug":"girls-powerlifting-team-in-michiana-builds-strength-and-support","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldbodybuildingnews.com\/?p=23163","title":{"rendered":"Girls powerlifting team in Michiana builds strength and support"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"\">\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">(WNDU) &#8211; A group of local girls is making noise in powerlifting, winning national competitions and showing that strength is about more than the bar.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Team GSP coach Scott Pherson said powerlifting differs from other sportsbecause athletes are focused on doing their best, not beating someone else.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cAnd if your best lands you on stage and gets you a medal, that\u2019s awesome,\u201d Pherson said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">For some of the girls, powerlifting started as a way to help with another sport before becoming something they loved.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Mary Jane Andersen, a freshman Goshen powerlifter, said powerlifting helped her during volleyball.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cWhen I first started powerlifting during volleyball, I noticed immediately I was jumping higher, I was stronger,\u201d Andersen said. \u201cIt also just made me feel better and stronger than my other teammates and gave me more confidence in what I do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The lifters said the biggest win is not always what happens on the platform, but what they have built together in the weight room and how they support each other.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Phoenix Pherson, a sixth grade Concord powerlifter, said her teammates are close friends.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cThey\u2019re not just my best friends,\u201d Phoenix Pherson said. \u201cThey\u2019re like my sisters.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Gracie Marshall, a junior Concord powerlifter, said the environment is positive and personal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cSometimes there\u2019s tears and we just have the moments where we\u2019re all close,\u201d Marshall said. \u201cAnd I mean, they\u2019re all sisters to me, like Phoenix said.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">For coaches, Scott Pherson said the payoff is seeing the work turn into results and seeing the impact go beyond medals.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cIt was awesome to see the rewards, see the smiles,\u201d Pherson said. \u201cThe smiles make it everything. Like, they\u2019re happy.
