The squad features returning medallists, debut\u00a0athletes\u00a0and\u00a0history makers\u00a0ready to lift big and chase gold when the\u00a0Australian\u00a0Commonwealth Games\u00a0Team\u00a0open\u00a0their campaign\u00a0on 23 July.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Leading the charge is\u00a0<\/span>Hani\u00a0Watson<\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/b>(<\/span>Women\u2019s Heavyweight), who famously broke Australia\u2019s 16<\/span>\u2011year medal drought with a bronze\u00a0medal at\u00a0Birmingham\u00a02022\u00a0and returns aiming even higher.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

For\u00a0Watson, the road to Glasgow is driven by the confidence gained in Birmingham.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWinning bronze in Birmingham was an unforgettable moment, and it\u2019s given me even more motivation heading into Glasgow,\u201d Watson said.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Wright\u00a0said the chance to step onto the platform again is something he never takes for\u00a0granted.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cCompeting for Australia at the Commonwealth Games is always special,\u201d\u00a0Wright\u00a0said.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cEach Games brings a new challenge, and I\u2019m proud to continue representing the green and gold alongside such a strong team.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The team also\u00a0showcases\u00a0exciting debutants\u00a0<\/span>Daniel Bos\u00a0<\/span><\/b>(Men\u2019s Lightweight)<\/span>, Natasha Price\u00a0<\/span><\/b>(Women\u2019s Lightweight),\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>Jade Pritchard<\/span><\/b>\u00a0(Women\u2019s\u00a0Lightweight), with seasoned competitor\u00a0<\/span>Cameron Whittington<\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/b>(Men\u2019s Heavyweight),\u00a0who first\u00a0represented\u00a0Australia in Delhi, rounding out the team.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Together, they form the largest contingent of\u00a0Para\u00a0Powerlifting\u00a0athletes Australia has ever sent to the\u00a0Commonwealth\u00a0Games.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Bos said\u00a0he\u2019s\u00a0ready to make the most of his first Commonwealth Games opportunity, expressing excitement and pride as he looks ahead to Glasgow.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a huge\u00a0honour\u00a0to\u00a0represent my country on a global scale,\u00a0and I\u2019m\u00a0ready\u00a0to\u00a0test myself against the best in Glasgow,\u201d Bos said.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m\u00a0keen\u00a0to\u00a0step onto the platform\u00a0knowing my coach and Para Powerlifting Australia are backing me and I\u2019ve done everything possible to be my best.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Glasgow 2026 Chef de Mission\u00a0<\/span>Petria Thomas OAM OLY<\/span><\/b>\u00a0congratulated the athletes on their\u00a0selection\u00a0and highlighted the significance of\u00a0representing\u00a0Australia at the Commonwealth Games.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cSelection to a Commonwealth Games team is an incredible achievement, and these athletes should be immensely proud of the work they\u2019ve put in to earn their place,\u201d Thomas said.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

General Manager \u2013 Para Powerlifting,\u00a0<\/span>Kim Ellwood<\/span><\/b>,\u00a0commended the team\u2019s dedication and outlined the strong preparation behind their Glasgow campaign.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis\u00a0team strikes an ideal balance between experience and\u00a0emerging\u00a0talent, combining three seasoned athletes with three exciting\u00a0new faces. It highlights the strength of the Para Powerlifting pathway in Australia, with every athlete bringing a unique mix of experience,\u00a0hunger\u00a0and resilience,\u201d Ellwood said.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Para\u00a0Powerlifting\u00a0continues to grow in Australia,\u00a0showcasing\u00a0remarkable displays of strength and determination while providing a pathway for athletes to compete at the highest level.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Para\u00a0Powerlifting\u00a0is the ultimate test of upper-body strength where men and women battle to lift<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>the heaviest weight, exercising incredible strength and control. Many powerlifters bench press two<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>to three times their bodyweight.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Men\u2019s\u00a0Para\u00a0Powerlifting\u00a0made its Commonwealth Games debut\u00a0at Manchester 2002, joined by the<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>women\u2019s competition at Delhi 2010.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games will run from 23 July to 2 August, with Para Powerlifting events held at the Scottish Event Campus (SEC), including The Hydro. The sport will kick off the medal action on Day One, awarding the first gold medals of the Games on Friday 24 July.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
