While much is made of staying strict in every rep to maximise gains, the four-time  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.menshealth.com\/uk\/workouts\/a65827846\/chris-bumstead-arms-shoulders\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.menshealth.com\/uk\/workouts\/a65827846\/chris-bumstead-arms-shoulders\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"Mr Olympia\" data-node-id=\"3.5\" class=\"body-link css-10fnnmt emevuu60\">Mr Olympia<\/a> takes a more flexible approach.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"8\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">Instead, he prioritises intensity and a movement pattern that allows him to lift the weight efficiently. Cutler still focuses on \u2018feeling\u2019 each rep and staying in control, but doesn\u2019t shy away from using a little momentum to challenge his muscles \u2013 as seen in his approach to  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.menshealth.com\/uk\/building-muscle\/train-smarter\/a64454186\/biceps-exercise-alternative-exercises\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.menshealth.com\/uk\/building-muscle\/train-smarter\/a64454186\/biceps-exercise-alternative-exercises\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"barbell curls\" data-node-id=\"8.1\" class=\"body-link css-10fnnmt emevuu60\">barbell curls<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"12\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">&#8216;I\u2019m not the most strict when I do my curls,&#8217; Cutler says in a  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=1clypfMIARk\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=1clypfMIARk\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"YouTube video\" data-node-id=\"12.1\" class=\"body-link css-10fnnmt emevuu60\">YouTube video<\/a>. &#8216;I always talk about being the form king, and I just really feel the exercises. It doesn&#8217;t matter \u2013 you watched  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.menshealth.com\/uk\/workouts\/a69508994\/arnold-schwarzenegger-efficient-full-body-workout\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.menshealth.com\/uk\/workouts\/a69508994\/arnold-schwarzenegger-efficient-full-body-workout\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"Arnold\" data-node-id=\"12.3\" class=\"body-link css-10fnnmt emevuu60\">Arnold<\/a> train in <em data-node-id=\"12.5\">Pumping Iron<\/em>, doing whatever it took to get the weight up. Remember, I was throwing around crazy weights, and I always feel my movements.<\/p>\n<section data-embed=\"watch-next\" data-lazy-id=\"P0-12\" data-node-id=\"13\" class=\"embed\"\/>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"17\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">&#8216;I know there are a lot of critics who talk about how you train, what\u2019s right and wrong. I can promise you, I\u2019m feeling every movement.&#8217;<\/p>\n<section data-embed=\"youtube\" data-lazy-id=\"P0-14\" data-node-id=\"19\" class=\"embed\"\/>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"23\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">When curling, Cutler uses a slight swing at the bottom of the movement to help initiate the lift, but he doesn\u2019t let momentum take over. His  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.menshealth.com\/uk\/building-muscle\/a758801\/best-bicep-exercises-for-building-muscle\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.menshealth.com\/uk\/building-muscle\/a758801\/best-bicep-exercises-for-building-muscle\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"biceps\" data-node-id=\"23.1\" class=\"body-link css-10fnnmt emevuu60\">biceps<\/a> are still doing the bulk of the work \u2013 particularly at peak contraction and during the  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.menshealth.com\/uk\/building-muscle\/a44702696\/eccentric-training\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.menshealth.com\/uk\/building-muscle\/a44702696\/eccentric-training\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"eccentric\" data-node-id=\"23.3\" class=\"body-link css-10fnnmt emevuu60\">eccentric<\/a> \u2013 as he focuses on maintaining tension throughout. A solid foot position also helps keep him stable.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"27\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">It\u2019s an approach that works for Cutler. Using a small amount of momentum allows him to handle heavier weights while still maintaining control, ensuring the key parts of the lift remain effective. What counts as \u2018perfect form\u2019 is also subjective. What works for one lifter may not work for another, and individual anatomy plays a role in how a movement looks.<\/p>\n<section aria-labelledby=\"recirc-heading\" data-lazy-id=\"P0-17\" data-node-id=\"28\" class=\"inline-content-module\"\/>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"32\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">That said, good technique still matters. It helps reduce injury risk and ensures the target muscle is doing the work, without unnecessary fatigue elsewhere.
