This was the case for<a href=\"https:\/\/fitnessvolt.com\/15599\/jay-cutler\/\"> Jay Cutler<\/a>, who <a href=\"https:\/\/fitnessvolt.com\/jay-cutler-talks-high-volume-training\/\">mimicked Ronnie Coleman\u2019s training habits<\/a> to catch up with him onstage. In 2006, Cutler cemented himself as an <a href=\"https:\/\/fitnessvolt.com\/history-mr-olympia\/\">Olympia<\/a> champion and managed to win the prestigious contest four times before calling it a career.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Cutler hasn\u2019t lost his condition or mass in retirement. He still <a href=\"https:\/\/fitnessvolt.com\/jay-cutler-explains-why-the-gym-is-my-savior-talks-training-frequency-and-optimal-routines-with-mike-ohearn\/\">trains seven days a week<\/a>, focusing on <a href=\"https:\/\/fitnessvolt.com\/5-key-exercises-for-longevity\/\">longevity<\/a> and functionality over hypertrophy. He admits that he used to aim for 20 sets per body part, but decreased it for recovery. These numbers exclude warm-up sets.\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"pullquote align-center\">\n<p>\u201cIdeally, I try to do at least four movements now for a body part. If we do four movements, and we do three working sets each, that\u2019s 12 total sets, plus a couple warm-ups, maybe adding one or two here. Since he\u2019s less concerned with size in retirement, he believes this style of training suits him best.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Aside from Cutler, 2023 World\u2019s Strongest Man Mitchell Hooper <a href=\"https:\/\/fitnessvolt.com\/mitchell-hooper-did-ronnie-coleman-back-workout\/\">explored how many sets were optimal for strength gains<\/a>.
