On March 1, 2026, <strong>he shared his intense push-day workout ahead of the Arnold Classic.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/fitnessvolt.com\/mike-sommerfeld-profile\/\">Mike Sommerfeld<\/a> enters the Arnold Classic as the clear favorite. After taking runner-up to Chris Bumstead at the 2024 Mr. Olympia, \u2018Mike the Badass\u2019 dominated the <a href=\"https:\/\/fitnessvolt.com\/2025-arnold-classic-results\/\">Arnold Classic<\/a> in 2025. Fans thought he was a shoo-in to secure the vacant Olympia title that same year, but he faced off against an all-time best <a href=\"https:\/\/fitnessvolt.com\/ramon-rocha-queiroz-profile\/\">Ramon Rocha Queiroz<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Ultimately, Sommerfeld settled for second place again, leaving him on the outskirts of <a href=\"https:\/\/fitnessvolt.com\/history-mr-olympia\/\">bodybuilding history<\/a>. We\u2019re increasing the weight straight away so we don\u2019t stop. 10-12 reps, and every time we\u2019re getting a little bit heavier, we\u2019re getting a little bit slower, and more controlled. That\u2019s the most important part.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h4 id=\"incline-chest-press\">Incline Chest Press<\/h4>\n<p>He explained that positioning the handle as low as possible gives him the best range of motion on incline chest presses.\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u201cBring the handle as down as possible to get the biggest full range of motion,\u201d he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=g9O3KzvUhc0&amp;t=19s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">explains<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h4 id=\"flat-press-machine\">Flat Press Machine<\/h4>\n<p>On the flat press machine, Sommerfeld utilized rest-pause sets for more time under tension.\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cAs I\u2019m pressing the handles, turn in and outwards. As they turn back inwards, they push my elbows out. As I\u2019m pushing inwards, it brings my elbows closer to the center, which contracts my muscle fibers even better. This is not a straight set. We usually do straight sets, 12 reps, failure, out. Here, we are doing rest-pause sets.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h4 id=\"dips\">Dips<\/h4>\n<p>Dips helped him finish off the lower portion of his chest.\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u201cWe\u2019re activating chest, the lower part actually, to finish it off entirely. We train basically all the fibers. That kind of stimulus, that kind of stretch, that\u2019s what your shoulder never gets, and that\u2019s a deal. What I like to do is bring the handle slightly lower than hip position.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h4 id=\"shoulder-press\">Shoulder Press<\/h4>\n<p>When shoulder pressing, Sommerfeld said to keep the elbows aligned with the hands.\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u201cQuite a simple exercise. It\u2019s basic. Try to keep your elbows under your hands.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h4 id=\"triceps-extension\">Triceps Extension\u00a0\u00a0<\/h4>\n<p>He finished off his triceps with extensions while his back was facing the wall, which gave him more stability.\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u201cI like to stand with my back against the machine to brace against it and to get more stability.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Sommerfeld hasn\u2019t taken any chances with his Arnold Classic prep. Consistency is king, leading him to include<a href=\"https:\/\/fitnessvolt.com\/mike-sommerfeld-two-workouts-low-carb-2025-arnold-classic\/\">\u00a0two-a-day workouts<\/a> in his training plan. This has allowed him to train back, chest, shoulders, and arms in the same day.<\/p>\n<p>Sommerfeld looks on track to present his best onstage. The <a href=\"https:\/\/fitnessvolt.com\/2026-arnold-classic-bodybuilding-lineups-revealed\/\">2026 Arnold Classic<\/a> is set for March 5-8 in Columbus, Ohio.
