Northwestern State University powerlifters\u00a0Ja’Leigha\u00a0Gray of Plaquemine and Keith Wade of Belle Rose were standouts in their first collegiate competition at\u00a0the USA Powerlifting Capital City Classic in Baton Rouge. \u00a0<\/p>\n

Gray placed first\u00a0in the Women’s Equipped Open Division, 56kg Weight Class\u00a0with a personal record of\u00a085 kg (185 pounds).\u00a0Wade also had a personal record of 145 kg (315 pounds).\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI am\u00a0very proud of both lifters for their hard work and\u00a0dedication,\u201d said Powerlifting Club Head Coach Maya Lucas. \u201cNot only were they able to place in their first\u00a0meet, but they achieved new personal records, which is a major\u00a0win in itself. I am\u00a0very proud\u00a0of them and\u00a0can’t\u00a0wait to see what the rest of the semester holds for the team.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

The next meet for the powerlifting team will be USA Powerlifting Collegiate Nationals\u00a0on\u00a0April 9-12 in Kenner.\u00a0<\/p>\n
