At 78 years old, living longer is his top priority. This has become crucial for him after undergoing a second heart surgery and <a href=\"https:\/\/fitnessvolt.com\/arnold-schwarzenegger-receives-pacemaker\/\">having a pacemaker implanted<\/a> in 2024.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Diet always played a major role in his career, and that hasn\u2019t stopped. Schwarzenegger admits he consumes less red meat today, <a href=\"https:\/\/fitnessvolt.com\/arnold-schwarzenegger-longevity-open-heart-surgery\/\">aiming to live beyond 100<\/a>. High-fat or low-fat. Vegan or Mediterranean. More protein, less protein. With so many conflicting messages, it\u2019s tempting to throw your hands up and eat whatever\u2019s closest.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But when researchers analyzed five different evidence-based eating patterns in over 103,000 people, all five were linked to living longer, and they agree on more than you\u2019d think.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The study Schwarzenegger pointed to examined participants for over a decade. They monitored a range of dietary patterns and found that people who scored the highest had a 24% lower risk of dying.\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u201cThe study followed participants for roughly a decade and evaluated their diets using the Mediterranean, DASH, plant-based, AHEI, and Diabetes Risk Reduction patterns. People who scored highest on any of the five had up to a 24 percent lower risk of dying.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u201cIn other words, eating well is associated with approximately 1.5 to 3 additional years of life expectancy compared with those who scored lowest.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Researchers revealed that those at a genetic disadvantage still lived longer by eating better:\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cResearchers also tested whether genetics changed the picture. They mapped each person\u2019s longevity genes, and the dietary benefits held regardless. Even people without favorable genetics gained years by eating better. The Diabetes Risk Reduction Diet appeared especially protective for those genetically predisposed to shorter lifespans.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The dieting patterns differed, but they had some similarities. <strong>All of them prioritized vegetables, fruits, whole grains, legumes, and nuts. They also minimized sugar-sweetened drinks and processed meat.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cDespite their different philosophies, the five patterns converge on a few things. Every diet emphasized more vegetables, fruits, whole grains, legumes, and nuts. What they all minimize: sugar-sweetened beverages and processed meat.<\/p>\n<p>That overlap matters because it suggests the foundation of a longevity-supporting diet isn\u2019t about picking the \u201cright\u201d team; it\u2019s about getting the basics consistently right.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Schwarzenegger isn\u2019t the only bodybuilding legend to redirect his focus to living longer. Former four-time Mr. Olympia Jay Cutler has done the same. He adjusted his training methods to <a href=\"https:\/\/fitnessvolt.com\/jay-cutler-two-a-day-training-sessions-longevity\/\">focus more on mobility<\/a> than muscle building.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Schwarzenegger continues to offer his fan base useful diets to look better and live longer. He believes diets rich in vegetables, fruits, whole grains, legumes, and nuts are backed by science with real merit.\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u201cThis isn\u2019t about perfection or memorizing a meal plan.
