Eight-time Mr. Olympia Ronnie Coleman experienced a \u201cmedical emergency\u201d over the weekend, his family confirmed on social media.<\/p>\n
The 61-year-old Louisiana native is suffering from “an infection in his bloodstream” and is under \u201cintensive medical supervision,\u201d Coleman\u2019s family said in a statement posted on Instagram<\/a> on Tuesday, July 1.<\/p>\n\u201cRonnie has been transferred to a specialized medical facility to receive the highest level care available,\u201d the family wrote. \u201cWhile his condition remains complex, there have been encouraging signs of progress, and his medical team is working around the clock to support his recovery. At this stage key evaluations and treatments are ongoing and Ronnie continues to fight with the strength and resilience that define him.\u201d<\/p>\n
The bodybuilder was scheduled to appear in the United Kingdom this week, Coleman said in a statement on Sunday.<\/p>\n
