He also discussed lifting lighter in retirement and his longevity at 52.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/fitnessvolt.com\/15599\/jay-cutler\/\">Jay Cutler<\/a> battled his way to the Olympia throne during the 2000s. He finally defeated <a href=\"https:\/\/fitnessvolt.com\/ronnie-coleman-profile\/\">Ronnie Coleman<\/a> in 2006 to become champion. However, just two years later, he dropped the title to <a href=\"https:\/\/fitnessvolt.com\/dexter-jackson-profile\/\">Dexter Jackson<\/a>; this set the stage for Jay\u2019s iconic comeback in 2009. He bested Branch Warren and Jackson en route to the Sandow trophy.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Cutler last competed at the 2013<a href=\"https:\/\/fitnessvolt.com\/history-mr-olympia\/\"> Mr. Olympia<\/a> in sixth place. Since then, he redirected his <a href=\"https:\/\/fitnessvolt.com\/jay-cutler-physique-goals-2025-longevity\/\">focus to longevity<\/a>. While he lifts lighter than he used to, the bodybuilding legend maintains lean muscle mass and a conditioned physique. Everything is good, knock on wood. You got to stay active. I don\u2019t train as heavy as you do, though. I train with baby weights.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>He shared that workout routines were simpler in the 2000s, often based on <a href=\"https:\/\/fitnessvolt.com\/2220\/arnold-schwarzenegger\/\">Arnold Schwarzenegger<\/a>\u2018s training approach.\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cIt was simplified. There weren\u2019t as many routines that you read about. Our rep scheme was all the same; it was a spin-off of what Arnold did,\u201d shared Cutler. \u201cBig eating, big training.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI always say it\u2019s what I was taught. Chris Aceto taught me that. I watched all you guys do it here when I came as a kid. If you weren\u2019t training twice a day, you were an outcast.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>To balance two-a-day training sessions, Cutler structured his day carefully. I\u2019d get up at six in the morning, train by 7:30, first session, go home, eat a meal, nap. Wake up, eat another meal, go back to the gym, 2:30, 3 in the afternoon. Yeah, full-time. Then, go eat two or three more meals, and I was in bed by nine, six to nine,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?app=desktop&amp;v=NEhwI9JU0MU\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">said<\/a> Cutler.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Though two-a-day training sessions are less common nowadays, some bodybuilders still utilize them.<a href=\"https:\/\/fitnessvolt.com\/mike-sommerfeld-two-workouts-low-carb-2025-arnold-classic\/\"> Mike Sommerfeld worked out twice a day<\/a> in the lead-up to the 2025 Arnold Classic. His efforts paid off, as he went on to win the contest.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Cutler still trains seven days a week, free of injuries.
