{"id":11219,"date":"2026-01-19T23:10:35","date_gmt":"2026-01-19T23:10:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/worldbodybuildingnews.com\/?p=11219"},"modified":"2026-01-19T23:10:35","modified_gmt":"2026-01-19T23:10:35","slug":"chris-cormier-shares-the-workout-that-took-him-from-19-to-20-inch-arms","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldbodybuildingnews.com\/?p=11219","title":{"rendered":"Chris Cormier Shares the Workout That Took Him From 19 to 20-Inch Arms"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>In Episode 268 of \u201cThe Menace Podcast,\u201d class was in session as host Dennis James and Milos \u2018The Mind\u2019 Sarcev asked Chris \u2018The Real Deal\u2019 Cormier to explain one of his favorite arm-growing workouts.<\/p>\n<p>IFBB Pro legend Chris Cormier kicked his bodybuilding career off in 1987, winning the teenage division of the NPC California Championships and during his twenty-year run, The Real Deal competed in multiple Arnold\u2019s, placing second for six-straight years. He was also a Mr Olympia final regular, making the top 3 in 1999 and 2002. <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Chris_Cormier\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">In his prime<\/a>, Cormier\u2019s conditioning was complimented by full, round muscles that came as a result of pounding it out in the gym. So, with the panel reminiscing about some of the workouts they executed in their heyday, the focus turned to Chris Cormier\u2019s brutal but brilliant arm session, designed to add muscle and separate the biceps, triceps, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.titaniumphysique.com\/brachialis-tendonitis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">brachialis muscle (under the bicep, connecting to the elbow).\u00a0<\/a> Cormier shared that this particular routine was instrumental in helping him go from 19 to 20-inch arms, an important step, as it is thought that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greatestphysiques.com\/male-physiques\/chris-cormier\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cormier hit a peak of around 22 inches.<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Chris Cormier\u2019s Workout for Bigger Arms<\/h2>\n<p>Cormier explained that his process involved completing 10 reps of seated dumbbell curls on the bench, then lying down and going straight into performing 10 skull crushers. He then sat back up and repeated this cycle for ten minutes. \u201cLight dumbbells, and don\u2019t squeeze hard,\u201d explained Cormier, noting that the idea is to get the blood flowing and a good pump going. The \u2018Real Deal\u2019 liked to finish this workout by swapping to heavier dumbbells and then completing a set of 40 hammer curls, \u201cto get the brachialis involved.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The retired bodybuilder and prolific coach, who has mentored the likes or Derek Lunsford and Breon Ansley, told the panel that he would perform this arm blasting workout three times per week, spacing it out to Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, \u201cEven if you did legs, or whatever, towards the end of your workout, do the ten minute arm routine (and finisher), and it\u2019s never failed,\u201d confirmed Cormier. \u201cSometimes you get like an (extra) inch on your bi\u2019s, but if you don\u2019t have a whole lot of size, you get a lot more development,\u201d he explained. \u201cDevelopment of the triceps and the biceps, and the brachialis, (it\u2019s) all gonna be separated.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When asked by Dennis James what weight the dumbbells should be, for the ten-minute routine, of course, this is subjective, but Cormier suggested that 15 pounds was a good starting point. Sarcev mocked 15-pound dumbbells as coming with a \u201clipstick,\u201d so Cormier explained that he was lifting 20 pounds as a teenager but if he were to do it now, he would start lighter and work his way up.
